Assertions & Nonsequitors

Lest those of you new to ChezArtz worry that the only side we see of our son, Gabriel, is the little beasty side, I thought I’d share some of Gabriel’s more memorable assertions & nonsequitors from the past few weeks:

“Mom, what’s a human being?” “Human being is another word for people, sweetie.” “But what kind of food beans are they?”

Lily calls all of her hair bows “yellow bows” because yellow, as I mentioned previously is the ubiquitous word in Lily-speak. So tonight she had a green bow, but was calling it “yellow bow” when Gabriel had to correct her, “No, Baby, it’s really a green bow, not a yellow one.”

“Mom, how long did Daddy lay down with Lily tonight?” (Not wanting to prolong the bedtime routine, I lied and said 5 minutes.) “Then I want you to lay with me for 5 hours!” Ah, how he loves to keep score right now!

“Daddy, I really really really want to watch Aristocats because I like the kangaroos (????). And, but, um, I want milk!”

And I just have to consider another quote from my own lips that I never thought I’d have to say: “Gabriel, don’t drink out of the mud puddle!” “But Mom!” he replied, looking up from his position–on his belly on the ice in the middle of the mud puddle–”It’s yummy!” Hooray for micronutrients & the immunity-building properties of pond-scum!

With that, I’ll say good night.
